Quick Notes on the Offseason Additions

Notes on the newest members of the Warriors.

Fresh off capturing their first championship in 40 years, the Warriors will look very familiar next season, with a roster featuring 12 of the 15 players who helped the team to a title in 2014-15. In fact, the Warriors will return their top nine players in terms of total minutes played last season, marking the first time the team will bring back that many of its top minutemen since 1976-77, when its top 10 minute-loggers in 1975-76 returned (those 10 players: Rick Barry, Phil Smith, Jamaal Wilkes, Clifford Ray, George Johnson, Gus Williams, Charles Johnson, Charles Dudley, Derrek Dickey and Dwight Davis).

While there has been little turnover this summer for the defending champs, there are three new faces on the roster as it stands today. Here are a few quick tidbits on the newest members of the Warriors:

Jason Thompson

How Acquired: From Philadelphia in exchange for Gerald Wallace on July 31

  • Is the all-time leader in games played in the Kings’ Sacramento era (541 games), playing in 97 percent of a possible 558 games during his seven-year stint in Sacramento
  • Since he entered the league in 2008-09, only Luis Scola has appeared in more games (549) than his 541
  • Was one of three players in 2014-15 to tally at least 23 points and 22 rebounds in a game (along with DeMarcus Cousins, Kenneth Faried) when he tallied those figures on Jan. 17 vs. the Clippers, making him one of only 11 players with a 20-point/20-rebound performance last season
  • Finished his collegiate career at Rider as the school’s all-time leader in rebounds (1,171) and blocks (235), going on to become the second player in the college’s history to appear in an NBA game (first was Herb Krautblatt in 1948-49)

Kevon Looney

How Acquired: Selected by Warriors with the 30th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft

  • Is Golden State’s first selection in the NBA Draft since 2012, a draft class that featured Harrison Barnes (7th overall), Festus Ezeli (30th) and Draymond Green (35th)
  • At UCLA, was named to the Second Team All-Pac 12 and Pac-12 All-Freshman Team in 2013-14 after averaging 11.6 points and 9.2 rebounds for the Bruins
  • Led all freshmen in the nation with 15 double doubles last year, including a 27-point, 19-rebound performance on Jan. 8 in a win over Stanford that helped him earn Pac-12 Player of the Week honors
  • Will be the second player in the Warriors’ West Coast Era to don No. 36, joining William Mayfield (1980-81)

Chris Babb

How Acquired: From Boston, along with Gerald Wallace, in exchange for David Lee on July 27

  • Appeared in 14 games for the Celtics in 2013-14
  • Earned All-NBA D-League Second Team honors with the Maine Red Claws in 2014-15, where he averaged 15.4 points and 5.5 rebounds per game
  • Ranked sixth in the D-League in 2014-15 with 119 three-pointers, hitting 37.5 percent from distance
