Warriors Surpass One Million Followers on Chinese Social Network Weibo

The Golden State Warriors exceeded one million followers on Weibo, one of the most popular social networks in China, just one year after being the first team in the NBA to launch an official account. Last October, the Warriors officially launched their Weibo account (weibo.com/warriors) prior to the team’s trip to China for the NBA Global Games in Beijing and Shanghai. To help celebrate the one million follower mark, the Warriors are hosting a contest on Weibo in which the team will give away 10 autographed player photos. Fans will be asked to display their Warriors pride while using the hashtag #我们是勇士# to participate.

Since launching the account last October, the Warriors have regularly engaged with fans on Weibo, including a Q&A with Warriors All-Star guard Stephen Curry which received over 2.6 million impressions and more than 3,500 questions collected in a 24 hour period. In addition, Weibo was one of the five social media platforms featured at the Warriors 5th Annual Tweedia Day on September 29, with the entire team engaging with fans and answering questions via an on-site translator. The Warriors also have an official Chinese website featuring news, stats, videos and more: https://china.nba.com/warriors.

The Warriors have celebrated Chinese New Year and hosted Asian Heritage Nights for the past four seasons and will once again feature these theme nights during the 2014-15 season. Asian Heritage Night is scheduled for January 7, 2015 when the Warriors play the Indiana Pacers and Chinese New Year will be announced at a later date. In addition to hosting the social media contest on Weibo, the Warriors are putting on a 10-day #GSWCountdown contest in the Bay Area as the team prepares for their October 29 Opening Night match-up with the Kings in Sacramento. The #GSWCountdown will feature the “Dub Truck,” a Warriors-themed converted food truck that now features Warriors merchandise and is included in this season’s Warriors TV commercials. The “Dub Truck” will visit a different Bay Area city each day through Opening Night, and fans who visit the truck at one of its stops will have the chance to win tickets to the Warriors home opener versus the Los Angeles Lakers. Full contest details and truck locations can be found at warriors.com/countdown.
