Warriors guard Klay Thompson has been named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, Jan. 5, through Sunday, Jan. 11, the NBA announced today. The award is Thompson’s second weekly honor this season, having been named Player of the Week for the season’s opening games played from Oct. 28 to Nov. 2.
In three games last week, Thompson averaged a Western Conference-leading 27.7 points to go with 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.33 steals and 1.00 blocks in 29.3 minutes, hitting 51.9 percent from the field, 50.0 percent from three-point range and 93.3 percent from the free throw line. The fourth-year guard helped the Warriors to a 3-0 record on the week, completing a perfect six-game home stand for the fourth time in franchise history and extending the team’s home win streak to 14-straight games—their longest since a 15-game stretch in 1989-90.
Thompson’s week was highlighted by his second 40-point game of the season, in which he connected on 14-of-25 from the field and a season-high 6-of-11 from three-point range against Indiana on Jan. 7. His 40-point performance, which was one off the career-high 41 points he scored in the home opener against the Lakers on Nov. 1, makes him one of only four players with multiple 40-point games this season, joining James Harden, LeBron James and Damian Lillard.
