Warriors Executive Gail Hunter To Receive Sport Manager Of The Year Award From St. John Fisher College Management Program

Golden State Warriors Vice President of Public Affairs, Community Relations and Event Management Gail Hunter will be awarded the Sport Manager of the Year award by the St. John Fisher College Sport Management program in Rochester, New York in honor of her leadership and work in the sports industry throughout her career. Hunter will be honored at the St. John Fisher College Sport Management program annual award ceremony at Oak Hill Country Club in Rochester on Saturday, April 1.

“We are honored that Ms. Hunter will be accepting this award at our celebration at Oak Hill Country Club,” said Dr. Todd Harrison, department chair. “She is a true testament to perseverance and exceptional work ethic in the sport industry. She is an ideal role model for sport management students and practitioners alike.”

Hunter, a native of Buffalo, New York, has worked in professional sport for more than 25 years. After spending almost a decade as an executive in Major League Baseball, Hunter transitioned to the NBA where she was eventually promoted as the league’s Senior Vice President of Events and Attractions. She held the position for 10 years before being named Vice President with the Warriors.

“It is a tremendous honor to be recognized for the work I’ve done throughout my career by a college near my hometown,” said Hunter. “I am very fortunate to be able to do what I love and work in sports. I look forward to speaking with the students at St. John Fisher College and sharing some of my career experiences in the sports industry.”

Hunter’s accomplishments have garnered her national attention. In addition to being an active member of WISE (Women in Sports & Events), the group named her a 2012 WISE Women of the Year Award recipient, SportsBusiness Journal recognized her key contributions to the industry by naming her to the 2014 class of “Game Changers: Women in Sports Business.” Hunter was also a key figure in the Warriors being named the SportsBusiness Journal’s Sports Team of the Year two of the last three years and nominated again this year. Hunter also sits on the Board of Directors for the Warriors Community Foundation which is dedicated to making a significant and lasting impact on the lives of underserved youth in the San Francisco Bay Area. Hunter’s personal community efforts also include serving on a variety of additional boards including the Board of Governors and Development Committee for Boys and Girls Clubs of San Francisco, the Board of the Embarcadero YMCA, and Board of Trustees for the First Tee of the East Bay.
