Golden State Warriors On-Court Success Generating Record Highs in Social and Web Search

The 2015 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors garnered more than one billion social impressions during the month of November as the team was in the process of establishing a new NBA record for most consecutive wins to begin a season, it was announced today. It was the first time that the club surpassed one billion impressions in a calendar month during the NBA’s regular season.

“There is no doubt that we have the best fans in the NBA,” said Warriors President and Chief Operating Officer Rick Welts. “During this recent road trip, we’ve seen more Warriors fans at games supporting our team than ever before. Combining the passion from our fan base with the record-breaking play on the court this season, we have reached franchise highs for our social following and created new Warriors fans all over the world.”

The league-leading one billion social impressions during November marks the second time that the Warriors have surpassed the one billion mark, having previously done so in June 2015 as the team captured the franchise’s first NBA title in 40 years. Overall, the Warriors have seen a collective year-over-year growth of 127% on their various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, Weibo, Twitter, YouTube, and Snapchat, surpassing over 11 million followers across all platforms during the month of November. Additionally, the Warriors recently became the first American professional sports team to amass two million Instagram followers (mid-October, 2015) and remain the most followed team on the photo-sharing platform.

In addition to continued growth on social media, the Warriors were the top trending team in the NBA and one of the top trending teams in all of sports on Google during the 2015 calendar year, with NBA MVP Stephen Curry ranking as the most searched athlete from any American team sport. NBA Finals MVP Andre Iguodala ranked fifth on the list of most searched NBA players, while Draymond Green ranked seventh. For a full recap of the Year in Search 2015 on Google, visit google.com/2015.
