Draymond Green to Learn How to Code at Oakland High School

Warriors All-Star Forward Draymond Green will visit Oakland High School on Wednesday, October 12 at 11:30 a.m. to learn how to code with students from the school’s computer science program, the team announced today. Through this event, Green will launch the Warriors’ latest community platform, Warriors Code, which aims to address a lack of diversity in the technology sector by making computer science available to underrepresented Bay Area students. As part of the inaugural event, Green will code side-by-side with students starting at 11:30 a.m.

Afterwards, Green will speak at a school assembly to inspire students to challenge themselves to learn new skills, adapt to evolving technology and build their self-confidence through hard work. Green will be joined by Oakland Unified School District Superintendent Antwan Wilson and Code.org CEO and Co-Founder Hadi Partovi. Later that night, Green will host over 100 Oakland High School students at Oracle Arena to watch Warriors Open Practice, beginning at 6:00 p.m., in Section 122.

In partnership with Oakland Unified School District and Code.org, Warriors Code will inspire and engage students of color to forge equitable paths in science and technology. Additional Warriors Code events will be held throughout the 2016-17 season, including an Hour of Code event in December, when the team will join a global movement involving over 100 million students by providing Bay Area youth the opportunity to learn computer science through interactive tutorials.

Green will host a group media availability following the student assembly at approximately 12:30 p.m. Media must RSVP to Warriors PR to enter the school grounds.
