USA Cruises Past Finland in World Cup Opener

Klay Thompson led the United States with 18 points as Team USA took down Finland 114-55 in the 2014 World Cup opener for both teams in Bilbao, Spain, on Saturday. Thompson shot 7-for-10 from the field and was 4-for-7 on 3-pointers in his 22 minutes on the floor.

Fellow Splash Brother Stephen Curry chipped in four points and led the team with five assists, as Team USA dominated the game from start to finish. After building a 15-point lead at the end of the first quarter, the U.S. squad held Finland without a basket in the second quarter (0-for-17 FGs). The United States out-scored Finland 29-2 in the period and the route was on.

The win marked the first of five games in six days in the group play round, and the U.S. squad will return to action on Sunday when they take on Turkey in a rematch of the 2010 World Cup gold medal game. Catch the action on ESPN at 12:30 p.m. (PT).
