Warriors Overcome Slow Start to Beat Atlanta

Established 1946 | 7-time NBA Champions

It took a lot of pride and a lot of grit, but the Warriors concluded their longest road trip of the season with a 119-111 win over the Hawks. The Dubs went 3-2 on the trip, marking their 15th consecutive road trip of at least four games with a winning record.

GAME LEADERS

It took a while for the starters to get going, and fortunately for the Dubs, their reserves were there to spot them. Andre Iguodala came off the bench and had a big night, getting the team back in the game after the Dubs dug themselves a hole early. Iguodala tallied a season-high 24 points on 6-for-8 shooting while knocking down four 3-pointers.

But Iguodala was far from being the only super sub on this day. Ian Clark knocked down a couple 3-pointers, David West had his mid-range jumper falling and Matt Barnes did a little bit of everything. The bench contributions were especially critical in the first half, keeping the Dubs in the game after they yielded 42 points in the first quarter, including 19 by Hawks guard Dennis Schroder.

Although the Dubs trailed by as many as 15 points early in the second quarter, the bench led the way in cutting away at the deficit before the break and actually out-scored the starters 41-20 in the first half, and Iguodala was a big reason why.

The Dubs trailed by seven at the end of the first quarter, cut that deficit to five by the break, and like many recent games, they took control of the game in the third quarter. Rookie Patrick McCaw knocked down a pair of 3-pointers in the opening minutes of the quarter, two of the Dubs’ four 3-pointers in the first three minutes of the frame.

The Splash Party would continue throughout the second half. The Dubs knocked down 13 treys over the final 24 minutes and finished with 20 for the game. Stephen Curry had six of those 3-pointers and shared team-high honors of 24 points with Iguodala. Klay Thompson overcame a scoreless first half to finish with 13 points and Draymond Green, who like Thompson sat out much of the second quarter with foul trouble, added 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists while picking up a steal in his 22nd straight game.

With the longest road trip of the season now behind them, the Warriors will next return to Oracle Arena to host the Celtics ( Find Tickets) on Wednesday in the team’s lone home game over a span of 17 days.
