GAME LEADERS

The Warriors secured their first victory of the Las Vegas Summer League after defeating the Philadelphia 76ers 85-77 on Tuesday. Golden State had five players score in double-figures, led by Keifer Sykes and Royce Oneale, who shared the team-lead with 16 points each.

Patrick McCaw got off to a fast start, opening the game with a three-pointer from the corner and following that up with a layup 15 seconds later. That put the Warriors in the lead, and they’d build on to make it 16-7 with 4:36 remaining in the first quarter. After Philadelphia responded with an 11-2 run to pull even at 18, Keifer Sykes and Christian Wood traded baskets before Sykes buzzer-beating floater put the Warriors back in front 22-20 at the end of the first frame.

The two sides would remain within five points of one another for the duration of the first half. After Philadelphia closed within two points once again with 2:36 remaining in the second quarter, Sykes sank another floater before a 5-0 burst put the Sixers in front for the first time all game with less than a minute to play. It would be a short-lived lead, however, as Darion Atkins jumper put the Dubs back in the lead heading into halftime.

Philadelphia opened the second half on a 6-2 burst, but Golden State responded with a 16-2 run over the next four minutes to build their lead back to double-digits. The Warriors would be held without a field goal until Royce Oneale provided their final points of the third quarter with a three-pointer with 28.7 seconds remaining in the frame. Christian Wood would go on to split two free throws, sending the game into the fourth and final quarter with Golden State leading 65-57.

Oneale’s jumper at the 5:50 mark increased the Warriors’ lead to 10 points, but Philadelphia wouldn’t go away quietly. The Sixers would go on a 6-0 run in response, but that was brought to an abrupt halt by yet another three-pointer from Oneale to put Golden State in front 79-72 with just over three minutes remaining. Philadelphia would erase just a single point of that deficit through the remainder of the contest, as Golden State walked away with an 85-77 victory, their first of the 2016 Las Vegas Summer League.
