GAME LEADERS

The Warriors lost their second-straight game to begin play in the Las Vegas Summer League, falling to the Lakers 78-65 on Monday night. Keifer Sykes led Golden State with 16 points while Patrick McCaw added 13 points and four steals, but it wasn’t enough to overcome a Lakers’ squad led by DeAngelo Russell’s game-high 26 points.

McCaw didn’t waste much time to show off his penchant for steals, picking off a pass from Ivica Zubac and dunking in the first two points of the game. He’d add another two steals and points in the opening quarter, but the Warriors combined for only two other made field goals, shooting just 4-of-18 from the floor in the opening quarter.

Golden State found themselves down 12 points with just under four minutes remaining in the first half, but DeAngelo Russell would make sure they got no closer. Russell would get on the board with two free throws at the 3:58 mark and add 11 more points through the remainder of the frame to send the game into halftime with the Lakers leading 43-27.

Keifer Sykes, who scored six points in the first half, would score eight-straight points for the Dubs to pull within 56-43 with 3:47 remaining in the first quarter. His layup with 47.5 seconds left in regulation would close out the scoring in the game and give him a team-high 16 points on the night.

The Warriors will look to bounce back and earn their first Summer League victory when they take on the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
