Warriors Fall at the Buzzer in Summer League Opener

Established 1946 | 7-time NBA Champions

The Warriors opened 2016 on a winning note, earning a 111-108 overtime victory over the visiting Denver Nuggets on Saturday night.

GAME LEADERS

Warriors rookie Patrick McCaw played his college ball at UNLV, and he seemed to be right at home in his Summer League debut. McCaw started off strong for the Dubs, but the finish was ultimately spoiled with a last-second shot made by the Spurs that gave the Dubs a 63-61 loss on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

McCaw, the 38th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft who was acquired by the Dubs via a draft night trade, had nine of his 14 points in the first quarter. He demonstrated an ability to get to the basket, hit the mid-range jumper as well as a pair of 3-pointers.

Keifer Sykes, a 6-foot, 180-pound guard who played for the D-League's Austin Spurs last season, had 15 points to lead the Dubs' summer squad, who here held scoreless for the final 4:59 of the game.

San Antonio's Jonathan Simmons knocked down a game-winning 4-footer at the buzzer, which extended the Spurs' game-closing run to 8-0.

Now 0-1 in the Summer League, the Warriors will be back in action in Las Vegas on Monday night when they take on the Lakers at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV. Watch the game at 7:30 p.m. on NBA TV or listen live on the Warriors Mobile App.
