Curry Splashes and Smashes as West Win All-Star Game

Established 1946 | 7-time NBA Champions

It was the highest scoring All-Star Game in NBA history, and of course the league’s highest scoring player had a little something to do with it. Stephen Curry knocked down six 3-pointers and finished with 26 points as the West took down the East, 196-173, on Sunday night in Toronto.

Fellow Splash Brother Klay Thompson followed his Three-Point Contest victory from Saturday night with three more treys for nine points and Draymond Green added four points in his first appearance in the league’s annual showcase.

The 65th NBA All-Star Game was full of highlights, and it started before the opening tip with a classy tribute to Kobe Bryant, who played in his 18th and final NBA All-Star Game. Once the game got going, the action was non-stop and the defense nonexistent. Paul George set the game’s all-time three-point record with nine treys and came within one point of Wilt Chamberlain’s All-Star record of 42 points, and Russell Westbrook took home his second straight All-Star Game MVP with 31 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

The West scored 50+ in each of the final three quarters, and Curry made his mark in the opening minutes of the third quarter. He hit consecutive 3-pointers immediately after the break, and he followed that up with an emphatic slam from the baseline. He hit three more 3-pointers in the final period, including one from near halfcourt in the game’s final seconds.

It was the fifth West victory in the last six NBA All-Star Games, and Curry, Thompson and Green will now head back home to rest up before the season resumes on Friday in Portland.
