PUTTING TEAMS AWAY
A team that is 46-4 doesn’t leave a whole lot to complain about, but if there was something to nitpick about Saturday’s win over Oklahoma City, it’s that the Warriors had the chance to put the Thunder away early, and failed to do so. They managed to hang on for the victory in the end, but it became a little too close for comfort within the final minutes. Granted, Oklahoma City is a terrific team capable of coming back from a big deficit against anyone, but the Warriors only make their own job tougher by allowing teams to linger, rather than putting them away at the first chance. They haven’t done it frequently enough for it to be something for Steve Kerr to worry about, but it’s something worth keeping an eye on moving forward. Certainly, if the opportunity presents itself against the Rockets, it would behoove the Warriors to show that they’ve learned from their mistake.

HOUSTON SCOUTING REPORT

The whirlwind season in Houston continues, as the Rockets rebounded from a very slow start to the season, but still have plenty of ground to make up. At 27-26, Houston sits just a single game above .500, and currently occupies the seventh spot in the Western Conference playoff race, only 1.5 games ahead of ninth-place Portland. While the Rockets have managed to score at a high rate with the fourth-highest points per game average in the league, they haven’t carried that success to the defensive end, where they allow an average of 106.5 points per game, good for 28th in the NBA. James Harden leads the team in both scoring (27.7) and assists (7.1) per game, and the star shooting guard will soon find himself a teammate of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond green as a member of the Western Conference All-Stars at the upcoming All-Star Weekend in Toronto. The Warriors have won seven-straight regular season games against the Rockets, not to mention dispatching them from last season’s Western Conference Finals in five games, so you can be sure Houston will be itching to return to the winning side. If Golden State limits their own turnovers while bringing a strong defensive effort, they stand a good chance at extending their win streak to 10 games.
