GAME LEADERS

The Warriors suffered their second loss of the season, falling 114-91 to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night. Playing without Stephen Curry, Festus Ezeli and Leandro Barbosa who all missed the game due to injury, the shorthanded Warriors fell behind early and could never catch back up. Ian Clark led Golden State with a career-high 21 points off the bench. Draymond Green tallied 11 points and nine rebounds, while Andrew Bogut notched 10 points and nine boards. With the loss, the Warriors drop to 29-2 on the season.

Playing without four members of their main rotation, the Warriors knew they would be in for a tough one against Dallas, and the game proceeded just as they had expected. The Mavericks used a 9-4 run in the final three minutes of the first quarter to take a 27-21 lead into the second frame, and that’s as close as Golden State would get for the rest of the game. Dallas opened the second on a 10-0 run, putting the Dubs in an early hole they would never be able to climb out of. After Draymond Green’s jump shot with 5:23 remaining helped the Warriors climb back within 11, the Mavericks would outscore Golden State 10-2 over the next three minutes to turn the game into a rout. Wesley Matthews’ three-pointer with 34.9 seconds left concluded the first half scoring and sent the game into halftime with the Mavericks holding a 60-42 advantage.

Things would get worse for Golden State before they’d get better, as Dallas’ three-point shooting put the game out of reach. Matthews’ three-pointer with 5:05 remaining in the third quarter, the Mavericks’ fifth trey of the frame, gave Dallas their largest lead of the game at 83-53. From there, the Warriors would outscore Dallas 15-4 through the remainder of the quarter to cut into deficit, but still trailed 87-68 with only one period left to play. After Marreese Speights opened the fourth quarter with a tip-in, Dallas would outscore Golden State 15-8 over the next five minutes to go up 102-78 and extinguish any thoughts of a Warriors’ comeback. Ian Clark would score 14 of Golden State’s 23 points in the quarter, but it wasn’t close to enough to change the outcome, as the Mavericks coasted to a 114-91 victory.

With the loss, the Warriors drop to 29-2 on the season. They’ll hope to rebound tomorrow when they travel to Houston to take on the Rockets in the second game of a back-to-back.
