Warriors - Suns Preview

I LOVE THE 90S
Fresh off a 4-0 road trip and winners of 10-straight overall, the Warriors come home for a Throwback Thursday 90s Night, presented by Jamba Juice. The Dubs will celebrate all things 1990s at this homecoming game against the Suns, and included in the festivities will be Mr. Cooper himself. Oakland native Mark Curry, star of the 1990s sitcom Hangin’ With Mr. Cooper, will be a guest in-arena emcee for the game, coming full circle more than 22 years after one of the plotlines of the show had him playing with the Golden State Warriors. Back on the court, the Dubs will be playing their lone home game in a seven-game stretch, and they’ll be seeking their third win in the four-game season series with Phoenix. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m., and the first 10,000 fans in attendance will receive a pair of Warriors sunglasses, courtesy of Jamba Juice. Those unable to attend the game can catch the action on TNT, CSN Bay Area, CSNBayArea.com and KNBR 1050.

LAST TIME OUT
The Warriors came back from a 17-point deficit and pulled out a 110-106 road victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night. It was another strong second half performance by Splash Brothers Stephen Curry (27 points and four assists) and Klay Thompson (25 points and four assists) that propelled the Dubs to their 10th straight win and completed their four-game road trip with an undefeated record. David Lee tallied 17 points and seven rebounds, while Marreese Speights added 13 points off the bench in the win. Full Game Recap

Injury Report/Roster Notes

GSW: Draymond Green (shins) is questionable. Ognjen Kuzmic is on assignment in the NBA D-League. Team Notes

Team Notes

ALL THAT AND A BAG OF CHIPS
There have been four winning streaks of at least 10 games in the NBA this season, and the Warriors are owners of two of them. The Dubs won 16-straight earlier this season before their current 10-game run, but this season’s success is based on a whole lot more than just those winning streaks. If you simply expunged those 26 wins from those two streaks, the Dubs would still have a winning percentage that’s better than all but one other NBA team this season. Furthermore, the Dubs’ 16-2 March set a new franchise record for most wins in an individual month. The Warriors are simply rolling right now, and with the playoffs just a few short weeks away, their best ball couldn’t be happening at a better time.

MAD PROPS TO D-LEE
The foundation of the best regular season in Warriors franchise history has been built on solid team play, and perhaps nobody exemplifies that more than power forward David Lee. The two-time All-Star averaged 18 points and nine boards last year, but he has seen a reduction in minutes this season after starting the season with injury issues. Draymond Green started in Lee’s absence and the Warriors thrived, so much so that Kerr kept Lee in a reserve role when he returned to full health. Lee has been 100 percent professional in this reduced role, and on Tuesday he stepped up when the opportunity presented itself. With Green sitting out a second straight game, Lee once again entered the starting lineup and played one of his best games of the season. He tallied 17 points on 8-for-12 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds. His quick start – he shot 5-for-7 in the first quarter while the rest of his teammates combined to go 3-for-19 from the field – kept the Warriors in the game, and they were eventually able to come back from a 17-point deficit. There can very well be a time in the postseason when the Warriors’ jumpers aren’t falling and they need to find a way to end a scoring drought, and on Tuesday Lee proved that he’s still very capable of being a go-to player for that much needed bucket.

PHOENIX SCOUTING REPORT

As quick as the Suns reentered the Western Conference playoff picture, they are just as fast back to being on the outside looking in. On March 22, Phoenix won its fourth-straight game to move into ninth place and pull within a two and a half games of the Thunder for the eighth and final playoff spot. But since then, the Suns have lost four straight and now probably need to win out and get some help from Oklahoma City’s opponents in order to come back within sniffing distance of the postseason. Perhaps, this shouldn’t be all that surprising, as the Suns have seen a roster overhaul since the calendar turned to 2015. With Goran Dragic and Isaiah Thomas traded earlier this season, the backcourt is now no question spearheaded by the talented Eric Bledsoe, who leads the team in scoring, assists and steals. The Morris twins have picked up their play of late, Alex Len is a young, talented big man and the Phoenix’s bench unit is full of young, talented players who are hungry to make an impact at the NBA level. All of that adds up to a dangerous team, and one that Warriors shouldn’t dismiss should they keep their winning streak intact on Tuesday night.
