Warriors Stumble Against Lakers

Established 1946 | 7-time NBA Champions

The Warriors fell to the Lakers, snapping a 27-game streak of holding their opponent to under 50 percent shooting from the field.

GAME LEADERS

The Warriors suffered their first loss of the season to a sub-.500 team on Tuesday night, falling to the Lakers 115-105 in Los Angeles. Playing their second game in as many nights, Golden State didn’t have the legs to keep up with an inspired Lakers squad that snapped Golden State’s 27-game streak of holding their opponent to under 50 percent shooting from the field. Stephen Curry notched 22 points and six assists, while Klay Thompson added 18 points of his own, but the Dubs’ comeback effort proved to be too little, too late.

Over the course of an 82-game season, every team is going to have nights like this. From the get-go, the Warriors struggled on both ends of the floor, missing easy baskets while aiding the Lakers’ offensive effort with several careless turnovers. The two teams remained close through the first half of the first quarter, but a Robert Sacre jumpshot at the 3:08 mark gave Los Angeles a 20-18 lead they would never relinquish. That Sacre basket began a 16-6 run for the Lakers to close out the first quarter with a 34-24 advantage, representing the Warriors’ first double-digit deficit after the first frame this season.
