GAME LEADERS

The Warriors got off to a strong start at Oracle Arena this season, defeating the Lakers 127-104 on Saturday night in Golden State’s home opener. The Splash Brothers put on quite a show as Klay Thompson achieved a new career-high with 41 points in his first game after signing a contract extension, while Stephen Curry recorded a double-double with 31 points and 10 assists. Kobe Bryant looked like his old self with 28 points, but it wasn’t enough to overcome all the firepower of the Warriors, who shot 55 percent from the field for the game.

Golden State may have been a bit too amped up following the pregame festivities, as the Lakers got out to a 35-29 lead at the end of the first quarter. Los Angeles then opened the second quarter on a 9-5 run, at which point Steve Kerr called a timeout. Whatever he said in the huddle must have worked, as the Warriors responded with a 14-0 run over a span of two minutes and four seconds, part of a 27-11 run to close the first half. Golden State led 61-55 at halftime and never looked back.
