Golden State Warriors and Esurance Team Up to Volunteer at San Francisco and Marin Food Bank on Monday, December 16

On Monday December 16th, the Warriors and direct-to-consumer insurance company Esurance teamed up with Warriors season ticket holders to pack and sort food for San Francisco and Marin families in need this holiday season.

“This is the hardest time of year for families, when it’s the end of the month, and the holidays can leave the fridge pretty empty without our help,” explained San Francisco and Marin Food Bank Project Leader Vladimir Machado. “That’s why the volunteer efforts of the Warriors and Esurance are going to make a difference in making sure our community members won’t go hungry this holiday season.”

“It’s great to be at the food bank today helping to keep children and families fed and happy during the holidays this year,” said Thompson.

All of the food prepared at the food bank will be delivered to over 450 grocery pantries, shelters, schools and community groups and programs throughout San Francisco and Marin Counties. The San Francisco and Marin Food Bank has distributed more than 46 million pounds of food to the community this year alone, enough for over 105,000 meals every day.

“The work we’ve done here today will be felt by thousands of children and families throughout the Bay Area,” said Warriors season ticket holder Aaron Bortel.

This event was the first of the Warriors and Esurance WE G.I.V.E. volunteer platform for the 2013-14 season, where Warriors players, staff, and fans will team up to Give, Inspire, Volunteer and Educate through a variety of events aimed to support organizations whose mission it is to give back to the Bay Area community.

“Visiting the food bank today shows that the Warriors and Esurance genuinely care about the well-being of our community and our families,” said San Francisco Food Bank Executive Director Paul Ash.

This event is also part of the Warriors Plays for the Holidays community outreach campaign and the NBA Cares Season of Giving, which enable the Warriors organization and every Warriors player to participate in events this holiday season to help lift the spirits of local families and youth in the Bay Area.

“The Plays for the Holidays campaign and the WE G.I.V.E. platform with Esurance allow our players and our organization to make a positive impact in the Bay Area this season and making our fans proud to have us in their community,” said Welts.
