Draymond Green Joins Warriors & Esurance Employees At Habitat For Humanity Greater San Francisco
On Wednesday, January 29, the Golden State Warriors, direct-to-consumer insurance company Esurance and Warriors season ticket holders continued their We G.I.V.E. volunteer platform by visiting San Francisco to help Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco build 28 new single-family houses in the Oceanview neighborhood. Warriors forward Draymond Green joined the volunteer group and helped construct the wall frame for one of the houses at the Habitat Terrace development that will one day be home for a deserving family.
“It’s great to partner with Esurance to lend a helping hand alongside season ticket holders to give back to community members in San Francisco,” said Green.
The volunteer group spent the day completing framing, plumbing, painting, drywalling and siding projects for six of the Habitat Terrace houses. Esurance Brand Partnerships Coordinator Mollie Clark helped one of the work teams measure, build and nail down the flooring for one of the houses.
“For the second We G.I.V.E. volunteer event this year, we wanted to get out in the community and exemplify how well the Warriors and Esurance work together for a common good,” said Clark.
The 150 adults and children that will live in Habitat Terrace by the spring of 2016 are being assisted by over 7,000 volunteers from throughout the Bay Area to help make their dreams of owning a home a reality.
“We believe that when you invest in your neighbor’s quest to own a home that it strengthens the entire community,” said Habitat for Humanity Greater San Francisco Executive Director Phillip Kilbridge. “When we have volunteers come out to support these families, we’re improving the neighborhood and our Bay Area community.”
One of the people who will benefit from Habitat’s affordable home ownership model is future Habitat homeowner Ana Leah Tarifa, a teller at US Bank who uses her vacation days and weekends to complete the 500 hours of sweat equity Habitat homeowners contribute in lieu of paying a down payment.
“I still can’t grasp the idea that one day I’m going to be a homeowner and I have all of these people spending their time helping me reach that day,” Tarifa said. “I’m so thankful to everyone.”
This event is the second of the Warriors and Esurance WE G.I.V.E. volunteer platform events for the 2013-14 season, where Warriors players, staff, and season ticket holders team up to Give, Inspire, Volunteer and Educate through a variety of events aimed to support organizations whose mission it is to give back to the Bay Area community. On December 16, 2013, the volunteer group visited the San Francisco and Marin Food Bank to sort and pack food for the 147,000 people who rely on the county’s food assistance network every week.
“I think it’s important that everyone takes time to give back to the community,” said 12-year Warriors season ticket holder Ginger T. “If we are able to enjoy Warriors basketball as season ticket holders, we can also take some time out of our busy lives to give back to people who are less fortunate and need help finding housing in our city.”
