Stephen Curry was one of four players to have a double-double in tonight’s All-Star Game, but in the end it was the East who came through with a 163-155 win over the West in New Orleans. Curry had 12 points, 11 assists, three rebounds and a steal in 27 minutes, and his last shot of the night actually gave the West the lead in the fourth quarter.
That last shot had to feel good for Curry, who shot 2-for-11 from 3-point range. Even though a lot of his shots rimmed out, Curry still found a way to impact the game, and he did most of his damage in bunches. He assisted two-straight baskets in the first quarter, both of which were alley-oops, including this inbound pass to Kevin Durant. Curry played the first eight minutes of the game, and re-entered in the second quarter and promptly assisted three-straight West baskets and drilled a 3-pointer for his first points of the game.
Curry had three points and six assists in the first half, but then really got it going in the third quarter. He scored the West’s first basket of the second half with a tear drop floater and he drew lots of oohs ahs from the crowd with this move to get past Dwyane Wade and LeBron James. He had four points and five assists in the first half of the third quarter, and coincidentally, the East went on their biggest runs of the game with Curry out of the game.
When Curry checked out of the game late in the third quarter, the East, who had trailed by as many as 18 in the second half, went on a 11-3 run over the last three minutes of the period. The Warriors guard then checked out of the game for good shortly after he gave the West the lead with his second 3-pointer of the game. The East then out-scored the West 15-4 over the final 3:14, including a 10-0 spurt over the final 1:41.
Eastern Conference guard Kyrie Irving of the Cavaliers took home MVP honors of the highest scoring All-Star Game (318 total points) in league history after scoring 24 of his 31 points in the second half and Carmelo Anthony helped the East to the win with 30 points on 8-of-13 on 3-pointers. Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin had 38 points to lead the West, who lost their first All-Star Game since 2010. Curry, Durant, Irving and Chris Paul had doubles-doubles in the game, which closed out quite an eventful weekend for the league.
