Welcome to the 75th season of the NBA and Warriors basketball!

The roots of today’s NBA date back to 1946 back when it was the Basketball Association of America, and the Philadelphia Warriors were one of the chartering members.

Now 75 years later, following an unprecedented year and a half of navigating a global pandemic, the Warriors are set to safely reopen the doors to their home at Chase Center for a full season of basketball in front of the ever-loyal Dub Nation.

But besides reuniting with each other as fans, we’ve got plenty of reasons for you to get hyped for this season. Take a look at the storylines and matchups to mark on your calendars as the season tipoff approaches.

Celebrating 75 Years Against the Celtics and Knicks

Only three franchises can trace their roots to those early days of the NBA: the Warriors, Boston Celtics and New York Knicks. Each of the three clubs, along with the NBA, celebrate their 75th season in existence this season.

The Dubs face these two clubs, with whom they share plenty of history, two times each this season. It starts with consecutive games on the East Coast on Dec. 14 in New York and then Dec. 17 in Boston. The decades-old rivalries then shift to the Warriors’ home court when the Dubs host the Knicks on Feb. 10. The following month, the Celtics make their lone regular season visit to Chase Center on March 16.

The Dubs will sport their Warriors Origins uniforms for these matchups, and the ones taking place at Chase Center will feature a special-edition court as well.

Warriors guard Klay Thompson has not played in a NBA game since tearing his ACL on Jun. 13, 2019 in Game 6 of the 2019 Finals. A subsequent Achilles tear kept him out of last season as well.

But now putting up his shots once again, Dub Nation awaits the return of the three-time NBA Champion.

While no official timetable is set for his return, the Splash Brother is making his way back into NBA form and will reunite with fellow three-time NBA Champions Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and one more familiar face, among others…

Returning to the team he helped get to five consecutive NBA Finals, winning three of them, as well as earning a Finals MVP award is Andre Iguodala.

The 17-year veteran played in 413 regular season games (84 starts) over six seasons (2013-19) during his first go-round with the Warriors, averaging 7.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.08 steals. He has accumulated 104 postseason games (40 starts) with Golden State, ranking fourth on the team’s all-time playoff games played list.

There’s another notable Champion Warrior making a return to Chase Center in the 2021-22 season: Kevin Durant. Though with the Brooklyn Nets since 2019, this will be the first time he can play in front of Dub Nation since the 2019 Western Conference Semifinals.

Durant was with the Nets for their last visit to Chase Center on Feb. 13, 2021, but fans were not yet permitted in the building due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Still, the organization rolled out the below tribute video for the two-time NBA Finals MVP at that game:

Now 964 days since his last game in a Warriors uniform, the former MVP will return to Warriors Ground in front of the Golden State fans on Jan. 29, 2022.

There are only 18 players in NBA history to have won the honor of Most Valuable Player in back-to-back seasons, and three of them are currently playing in the league. One of those is Golden State’s very own Stephen Curry.

But the two other active players with such credentials -- LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo — will lead their respective squads into battle against Curry and the Warriors, with all of the squads having Championship aspirations.

James, along with forward/center Anthony Davis, is just one season removed from a 2020 Championship. However he will lead an overhauled Los Angeles Lakers roster that looks to improve on the team’s First Round exit from least season’s NBA Playoffs. Dub Nation does not need to wait long to see this new group in action as the Lakers and Warriors tip off the NBA season against each other on October 19th in Los Angeles (7 p.m., TNT). They will have three subsequent matches throughout the remainder of the season.

While the Warriors will face the Western Conference rival four times, the Dubs will have just two dates with the reigning NBA Champion Milwaukee Bucks, who are led by another back-to-back MVP in Antetokounmpo. The Warriors host the Bucks on Mar. 12 at Chase Center after a meeting in Milwaukee in January.

The Warriors went 1-2 against the Lakers, also falling to them in the first round of the NBA Play-In Tournament, and 1-1 against the Bucks last season.

The Warriors will play on Christmas Day for the ninth straight year when they square off against the reigning Western Conference Champion Phoenix Suns (2 p.m., ABC). The Warriors have four games against these foes, starting with a home-away back-to-back on Nov. 30 and Dec. 3, but the series is highlighted with the holiday treat when the two teams clash on Dec. 25.

The foes from the Valley of the Sun have been riding a wave of momentum since the 2020 NBA season re-start in the Orlando Bubble, where they reeled off eight straight wins to end the 2019-20 season. That success grew into a Western Conference-leading 51-21 record in the 2020-21 regular season, and Phoenix would ultimately make it all the way to the NBA Finals.

The Warriors went 1-2 against this Suns team that retains much of their core including Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Deandre Ayton and more.

Get ready for four games featuring bombardiers Stephen Curry and Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard. Two of the most prolific and accurate shooters from deep showed off their range in the 2021 All-Star Game.

The Warriors and Trail Blazers play just three times this season with the Dubs getting home court advantage for two of those contests. The splash clashes at Chase Center take place on on Nov. 26 and Dec. 8, followed by a third meeting following the All-Star break in Portland on Feb. 24.

Riding into Battle vs. Doncic and the Mavericks

While the Western Conference is overloaded with talent, there was no one player who gave more grief to the Warriors than Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks. The fourth-year guard averaged 36.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists against the Dubs, while the squad went 1-2 in their meetings with the Mavericks last season.

The Warriors were able to hold Doncic to 27 points in their first meeting of the 2020-21 campaign, handedly claiming their lone win 147-116. But Doncic’s response included 42 and 39-point outings in their following matchups.

The new NBA season is almost upon us, Dub Nation. Have you staked out which matchups you’ll plan some life events around?

The 2021-22 Warriors schedule was announced last week, and there is no shortage of storylines. Reignited rivalries, continuing duels from last season, and even showcasing some of the fresh new faces in the NBA… there are plenty of games to be excited for.

But besides our favorite classic rivalries and matchups (Christmas Day game at Phoenix, the Los Angeles teams, the reigning champs, the Nets’ visit to Chase Center), what are some of the other series of interest that Dub Nation may want to be a part of this next season? Take a peek at some of the more under-rated, but just as entertaining Warriors matchups this upcoming season.

Games vs. Grizzlies

The Warriors and Memphis Grizzlies battled it out several times through the end of the last season as both teams competed for their spots in the Play-In Tournament and subsequent Playoffs. While the Dubs fended off Memphis in the last game of the regular season to claim a more favorable spot in the tournament, a loss to the Lakers prompted another Warriors-Grizzlies matchup with the winner advancing to the postseason and loser’s season coming to an end. Unfortunately the Warriors fell 117-112 in overtime on May 21.

But the wait for a rematch and retribution will not be long as the Warriors take on the Grizzlies twice in the first three months of the regular season — Oct. 28 and Dec. 23 — with both games being hosted at Chase Center.

The Grizzlies enter this season with the same young, dynamic core of Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Dillon Brooks that Dub Nation saw last season, but they have some notable veteran additions, too. Through offseason trades Memphis acquired center Steven Adams and guard Rajon Rondo, along with other talented role players in Juancho Hernangomez, Jarret Culver and Daniel Oturu.

But the Warriors got their buckets against this Memphis squad last season.

Though he missed the first two games of the 2020-21 campaign against Memphis due to a tailbone contusion, Stephen Curry had the hot hand versus the Grizzlies. In their regular season finale, Curry dropped 46 points with nine splashes on the Western Conference foe to capture the season’s scoring title. And then he added a 39-point performance in the final round of the Play-In Tournament.

Also worth watching in this series will be Jordan Poole. His 22.0 points per game against Memphis in the regular season was his highest against any opponent last year. He followed that up with 19 points with three splashes in the final Play-In Tournament game.

Building on last season’s performance is on both team’s 2021-22 agenda, and both teams likely view the other as an obstacle to achieve that greater success.

Ready for the clash of MVPs? The Warriors tip off their regular season series against reigning honoree Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets with a rare home-away back-to-back set of games coming late in December. But awaiting Jokic will be two-time MVP and another top-honor finalist from last season in Stephen Curry.

Jokic is a three-time All-Star with 57 career triple-doubles across his first six seasons. And besides his multi-dimensional game that notched him 10.3 rebounds and 8.3 assists per contest, Jokic also finished as the NBA’s 10th highest scorer in the 2020-21 campaign with an average of 26.4 points per game.

However, Curry led the NBA in scoring last season with 32.0 points per contest, making it the second time in his career winning the scoring title. He was named NBA Western Player of the month two consecutive months (April and May, the first Warrior to earn the honor back-to-back months in franchise history), concluding the last month with at least 30 points in seven of his eight games, including 40-or-more points three times, the most of any player in May.

While Jokic came away with the MVP award over Curry, the Warriors won the season series 2-1 over the Nuggets, who finished 3rd in the Western Conference and fell to the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round of the NBA Playoffs last season.

These will also be the first Golden State-Denver matchups since the clubs met late last season on April 23. In that game, the Nuggets lost their star guard Jamal Murray to a season-ending ACL tear.

While there has been no official word on his return, Murray has posted updates on his rehab progress while doing light work in the gym as he prepares to come back this season.

With little turnover in Denver’s core it remains to be seen how this matchup plays out again.

Games vs. Kings

The Warriors square off against the Sacramento Kings four times through the 2021-22 season, and will get a healthy dose of the dynamic backcourt that includes the speedy De’Aaron Fox, long-range bomber Buddy Hield, and last season’s rookie sensation Tyrese Haliburton. While the backcourt is strong as is, the Warriors already saw Sacramento’s newest addition in action during Summer League: NCAA Champion guard Davion Mitchell.

Mitchell had been tied to the Warriors as a draft target by "experts", but the Warriors ultimately chose Jonathan Kuminga with their seventh overall pick, and Mitchell went to Sacramento two picks later at No. 9. The “Summer Dubs” won Mitchell’s professional debut in the California Classic 89-82 in, but he shined on the court. The rookie was the game’s leading scorer with 23 points, while also being a proven pest who tallied three steals.

While the Warriors’ veterans do not have experience against Mitchell, there is one Dub who has faced the guard on the big stage: rookie Moses Moody. The two clashed in the round of eight in this past NCAA tournament with Moody and Mitchell holding each other to 11 and 12 points, respectively.

Though they did not meet in Summer League as Moody sat out the Warriors’ California Classic game against the Kings, he proved to be reliable from distance making 2.5 treys on 37 percent shooting from distance through the summer.

Moody’s shooting adds to a rivalry that included splash-fests in their 2020-21 matchups. The Warriors claimed victory in two of their three games, knocking down 54 buckets made from beyond the arc on a 48.6 percent clip.

These two teams are very familiar with each other, so enjoy the on-court show between the Northern California rivals.

Games vs. Pistons

The 2021-22 Detroit Pistons’ roster may not one filled with star power, buy they none the less have a talented and lengthy team. At the center of it all is the No. 1 overall pick from this summer’s NBA Draft: Cade Cunningham.

Cunningham is a 6-foot-8-inch guard who averaged 20.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists in his lone year at Oklahoma State, leaving as the Big 12 Player of the Year and a Consensus All-American. His output continued through Summer League as he averaged 18.7 points on 50% on his 26 3-point attempts, 5.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals.

The rookie joins veteran Pistons who are coming off career seasons. Forward Jerami Grant posted 22.3 points per game to go with 4.6 rebounds in his first season with the team, while guard Corey Joseph notched 12.0 points and 5.5 assists in 19 games after being traded to the club by the Sacramento Kings.

But speaking of career seasons, Andrew Wiggins is coming off one of his best in his seven years in the NBA with a new high of 38-percent shooting from beyond the arc for 18.6 points per game. He was also key to the Warriors going 2-0 over the Detroit Pistons last season.

Wiggins dropped 17 of his 27 points, including three 3-pointers, in the fourth quarter to lead the squad to a 116-106 victory on Dec. 29. Then on Jan. 30, he led the team with 14 points with two three-pointers through the first two quarters of the Warriors’ 116-106 win over Detroit; Wiggins finished that game with 20 points.

These two teams clash just twice this season, with the Warriors hosting Cunningham and the Pistons for their lone visit to Chase Center on Jan. 18, 2022.

Games vs. Jazz

While the Warriors do not face these Western Conference foes until the calendar turns to 2022, Dub Nation better be ready to see a lot of the Jazz as the two will face each other three times over the first five weeks of the new year.

The Jazz enter the 2021-22 campaign with their core of reigning Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert and 6th Man of the Year Jordan Clarkson along with two-time All-Star Donovan Mitchell and a familiar face, too.

Former Warrior and 2019-20 All-Rookie Honoree Eric Paschall joins his childhood best friend in Mitchell after being traded to the Jazz during the offseason.

Last season, the Warriors played well against the Jazz (51-21), who ultimately finished second in the conference, beating them in the final two matchups of the season series with a 131-119 win and a victory to tip off a back-to-back against them and the conference-winning Suns.

Curry was electric in those two matchups, posting 32 and 36 points in the contests, respectively. But those scoring outbursts came in very different fashions. The two-time MVP made six 3-pointers on a 67 percent shooting night from beyond the arc in the Mar. 14 game. While Curry was held to a 3-for-13 night from deep on May 10, he worked his way to the free throw line 12 times. He also followed the mantra of “shooters shoot” to splash the Warriors into a one-point lead with 13.4 seconds left in the contest despite his off-night from distance.

Curry is not the only one who can splash though. The Jazz finished last season with the most 3-pointers made (1,205) while making them at the fourth best rate in the NBA (38.9 percent), setting up some likely splash parties with the Dubs.

Games vs. Knicks

Over the course of the last three seasons the New York Knicks have gone from having the worst record in the league (17-65) in 2018-19 to becoming a playoff team this past season. Momentum is on their side as the Knicks continue to build upon a core the Warriors went 1-1 against in last season’s two-game series.

The Warriors fell to this team on 119-104 on Jan. 21 when they were held to 38.4 percent shooting from the field. But the squad registered a 114-106 victory thanks to a 37-point outing from Stephen Curry, which including two game-winning plays in the final minute and a half, on Feb. 23.

While not an Eastern Conference team with All-Star cores like the Brooklyn Nets, the Knicks had the third best defensive rating while leading the league in opponent’s points allowed (104.7). They also have scoring punch as well.

Julius Randle and RJ Barrett, their frontcourt duo, had career seasons. Randle averaged 24.1 points, 10.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists for his first All-Star selection, while Randle took a step forward in his sophomore campaign with averages of 17.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists.

After resigning veteran guards Derrick Rose (14.9 points) and Alec Burks (12.7) to new contracts, the Knicks have retained their five leading scorers from last season, which include Randle, Barrett and Immanuel Quickly (11.4).

This matchup looks to be a solid measuring stick for the Warriors. Someone without the name “Curry” will need to find a way to contribute against the Knicks’ stout defense, and the Dubs will have their hands full with New York’s variety of scoring options.

The Golden State Warriors announced today various opportunities for fans to secure tickets for the team’s upcoming 2021-22 NBA regular season home games at Chase Center. Partial-season ticket plans will go on sale on Wednesday, August 25, exclusively for members of the Dub Club before going on sale to the general public on Tuesday, August 31. Partial plan ticket packages will feature marquee match-ups scheduled for the 2021-22 NBA season at Chase Center including Opening Night against the Los Angeles Clippers, the lone appearance of the Brooklyn Nets on January 29, and match-ups against the Los Angeles Lakers on February 17 and April 7.

The Golden State Warriors and Chase Center announced details today regarding the venue’s entry requirements, as mandated by the City and County of San Francisco Department of Public Health order, issued on August 12, 2021. The order states that, for all indoor events with more than 1,000 attendees, fans ages 12 and older, are required to show proof of full vaccination to enter the venue unless they have a medical or religious exemption.

The next Chase Center event, Tame Impala, is scheduled for September 15, 2021. The Warriors’ 2021-22 NBA regular season and preseason schedule will be announced in the near future.

Fans ages 18 and older who are fully vaccinated (two weeks removed from their final dose) are encouraged to download the free CLEAR app and utilize the Health Pass feature, where they can securely add their proof of vaccination in multiple ways, including scanning their SMART QR code from the California Immunization Registry, linking directly to a vaccine provider in CLEAR’s nationwide network, or by uploading their CDC-issued vaccine card. Chase Center Announces Venue Entry Vaccination Requirements

As part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to civic engagement, the Golden State Warriors have announced that Thrive City, the plaza surrounding Chase Center in San Francisco, and the teams’ Oakland Facility (1011 Broadway) will serve as ballot drop-off locations for the 2021 California gubernatorial recall election from September 11 through September 14, which is Election Day.

Last November, the Warriors hosted a variety of civic engagement opportunities across Oakland, San Francisco and Santa Cruz to support voter participation in the 2020 General Election.

Warriors Announce Ballot Drop-Off Locations for 2021 California Gubernatorial Recall Election

It went down to the wire, but the Warriors' fell to the Pelicans, 80-79, in an overtime thriller on Sunday at the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

The scoring got started by Justinian Jessup, second round pick by the Dubs in 2020, who logged the first five points in the game en route to a 16-point night.

And while his late defense kept the Warriors in the contest, the seventh overall pick Jonathan Kuminga led the squad in scoring and rebounds with 17 points and eight boards.

Despite losing the game, the Warriors denied the Pelicans the opportunity to play in the Summer League Championship game against the Boston Celtics as New Orleans needed to win the contest by at least 11 points.

Moses Moody, who has averaged 17.0 points on 40.9 percent shooting with 3.0 rebounds and 1.3 steals this summer, was out Sunday night due to a chest contusion.

Now 2-2 in Las Vegas, the Warriors will wrap up Summer League play against the Lakers on Tuesday at 4 p.m. (ESPN News)

Warriors Fall in Overtime to Pelicans at NBA Summer League

The Golden State Warriors have announced that Kenny Atkinson and DeJan (DAY-hahn) Milojević (mi-lo-yo-vihch) have been added as assistant coaches and Jama (Jah-MAH) Mahlalela (MAH-la-lay-lah) has been added as Director, Player Development/Assistant Coach on Head Coach Steve Kerr’s staff.

Atkinson joins the Warriors after spending the 2020-21 season as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Clippers. Previously, Atkinson spent three-plus seasons as head coach of the Brooklyn Nets, finishing his tenure in Brooklyn ranked third in franchise history in games coached (308) and fourth in wins (118). He spent four seasons as an assistant coach with the Atlanta Hawks (2012-16), four seasons as an assistant coach with the New York Knicks (2008-12) and one season as the Director of Player Development for the Houston Rockets (2007-08). A native of Huntington, New York, Atkinson played professionally for 14 years (1990-2004), beginning his pro career in the CBA and USBL before competing for teams in France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands and Spain.

Mahlalela recently completed his second stint as an assistant coach with the Toronto Raptors during the 2020-21 season. Mahlalela spent two seasons (2018-20) as head coach for Raptors 905 in the NBA G League, where he accumulated a 51-42 (.548) record. Prior to his time with Raptors 905, Mahlalela spent five seasons as an assistant coach with the Raptors (2013-18) and two seasons working in the front office as director of player development. He was also an assistant coach with the University of Toronto for four seasons (2004-08). A native of Mbabane, Swaziland (now Eswatini), Mahlalela played collegiately at the University of British Columbia.

Milojević spent the 2021 season as head coach of KK Budućnost in the Adriatic League in Montenegro. Prior to KK Budućnost, Milojević served as the head coach for KK Mega Basket in Belgrade, Serbia, for eight seasons (2012-20). In December 2019, he was named an assistant coach for the Serbian national team under Igor Kokoškov.  Milojević was a member of the Atlanta Hawks Summer League staff in 2016, the San Antonio Spurs in 2017 and the Houston Rockets in 2018. A native of Belgrade, Milojević enjoyed a 14-year international playing career and was named the Adriatic League Most Valuable Player three times (2004-06).

Warriors Announce Coaching Staff Additions

While the Summer Dubs are on the courts in Las Vegas, they are getting support from the rest of the Warriors family who are hanging out on the sidelines.

The Golden State Warriors have been ever present through the first games of 2021 Summer League, presented by Oracle. The squad rolled deep into Monday’s game with five Dubs — Jordan Poole, Mychal Mulder, James Wiseman, Juan Toscano-Anderson and Kevon Looney — grabbing seats on the sideline to watch the summer team and players who may be future teammates.

That wasn’t all, either. Joining the squad on Wednesday night were Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

While at the game, Curry took time to discus things happening through the summer, including the signing of Andre Iguodala and Kaly Thompson’s videos.

Of course the newly minted Olympic Champion in Green came with new hardware, showing off his Tokyo 2020 gold medal earned with the men’s national basketball team.

Also joining in the fun Wednesday was Damion Lee.

It’s not just the current Dubs showing up at the Las Vegas games either. Three-time NBA Champion Shaun Livingston and captain of the We Believe Warriors Baron Davis found each other on the sidelines for a quick handshake and “hello,” too.

Join the Warriors as they keep on rooting for the Summer Dubs, which includes 2021 Draft picks Jonathan Kuminga and Moses Moody, who continue competing through the weekend. Their next game is Friday (4 p.m., ESPN2) against the Oklahoma City Thunder followed by another contest on Sunday.
