Rockets Announce Addition to Coaching Staff

HOUSTON – Houston Rockets Head Coach Kevin McHale announced today that he has hired former Houston assistant T.R. Dunn to his staff.

Dunn joins the Rockets after spending three seasons as an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Prior to his stint in Minnesota, Dunn was an assistant on former Rockets head coach Rick Adelman’s staff in Houston for four seasons from 2007 to 2011 and helped produce two top five defenses in the league by team defensive rating (2007-08 and 2008-09).  Dunn has also been an assistant coach with the Sacramento Kings (2004-07), Denver Nuggets (1997-98, 2002-04) and Charlotte Hornets (1991-97).  During his 14-year NBA playing career, Dunn was regarded as one of the premiere defensive players of his time. He was named to the NBA’s All-Defensive Second Team three times (1983-85) and was considered one of the top rebounding guards in the NBA throughout his career. During his playing career, he missed just six games due to injury over a 10-year span (1978-88), finishing with career averages of 5.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 993 regular season games.
