BRIGHTON, Mass. – Birthday girl Maya knew how she wanted to celebrate her special day – by volunteering to help others.

The 11-year-old Maya and 10 of her friends traded in cake and presents to spend Wednesday morning volunteering at Cradles to Crayons, a non-profit that provides homeless and low-income children with clothing, toys and other items to help them thrive. They did so by joining forces with the Celtics CommUNITY Crew, in partnership with TD Bank volunteers.

The group helped to clean and sort gently-used toys as well as create and decorate birthday cards and back-to-school cards. The notion of helping so many other kids brought smiles to the faces of the group, especially the birthday girl herself.

“I learned so much today about Cradles to Crayons,” Maya said. “They are helping a lot of kids and I’m glad we were able to do our part volunteering today!”
