Boston, MA - In the shuffle of everyday life we sometimes forget to thank those who have sacrificed their lives for our country. To recognize the brave men and women of our armed forces the Boston Celtics and TD Bank geared up for a daylong volunteer event at the New England Center for Homeless Veterans (NECHV) on Monday.

Members of the Celtics CommUNITY Crew volunteered alongside active service members from the First Coast Guard District and the USS Constitution to assist with serving meals in addition to painting the living quarters and sorting donations for the supply store.

The New England Center for Homeless Veterans in downtown Boston serves nearly 300 homeless men and women a day. The center lends a helping hand to these homeless veterans who are struggling with addiction, trauma, mental illness and unemployment.

“TD Bank is honored to support the New England Center for Homeless Veterans," stated Dan Griggs, Marketing President of TD Bank. "Our veterans have done so much for our country, so to have the opportunity to give back to them is a privilege."

Celtics forward Jeff Green stopped by to help the volunteers’ efforts to organize clothing and shoes in the store before putting on an apron to serve the evening chow donated by the Love and Hope organization.

“On the eve of Veterans Day it is really special for us to have Jeff Green, Celtics staff, and members of TD Bank here,” reflected Andy McCawley, President and CEO of NECHV. “They have had a day of service assisting us with both providing services to veterans and helping us to continue to make our facility an even better home for those that live here.”

With teams from all around the NBA coming together to give back to the armed forces as a part of NBA Cares Hoops for Troops week, the Celtics CommUNITY Crew was proud to do their small piece of giving back to our nation's heroes.
