Thanasis Rotimi Antetokounmpo was born in Athens in 1992. As the second of five sons to Charles and Veronica Antetokounmpo, Thanasis comes from a basketball family. He is teammates in Milwaukee with his brother Giannis, who is the reigning Most Valuable Player of the Eastern Conference (2018-19). Their brother Kostas currently plays for the Los Angeles Lakers. Alexander, the youngest in the family, is attending Domenican High School in Milwaukee and is a member of their basketball team. In 2016, Antetokounmpo played with Andorra of the Spanish ACB, appearing in 34 games and averaging 7.8 points and 3.8 rebounds while shooting 46.0 percent from the field. The next year, he managed 67 games with Panathinaikos in both EuroLeague and Greek Basket League action, and was named the Greek Basket League's Most Spectacular Player after averaging 5.6 points and 2.7 rebounds in 13.7 minutes while shooting 55.8 percent from the field.
