Romeo James Langford was born in New Albany, Indiana, in 1999. Langford is the son of Tim and Sabrina Langford and he has two sisters, Tiffany and Tisha. He played for New Albany High School. As a sophomore he lead New Albany to a 27-1 record and a class 4A state championship, the school's first state title since 1973. That same year, he was selected as the National Player of the Year for the sophomore class in 2016 by MaxPreps. Langford was named a Naismith All-American twice and MaxPreps All-American as a senior. Also as a senior, Langford was named Indiana Mr. Basketball and Gatorade Indiana Player of the Year. He is the 27th former Indiana Mr. Basketball to play for Indiana University.
