Player Bio

Oubre was born in 1995 in New Orleans, Louisiana to parents Tonya and Kelly Sr. He has two siblings -- a sister, Amber Coleman, and a brother, Gared Washington. When Oubre was in the fourth grade, he was forced to move from New Orleans with his father due to Hurricane Katrina. By his high school years, Oubre had relocated to George Bush High School in Texas before transferring to Findlay Prep in Nevada for his senior year. Oubre is involved in the community, providing scholarships to 10 high school students in the New Orleans area in 2017-18 and 2018-19. He also contributed to teammate DeAndre Ayton's Hurricane Dorian relief efforts in October 2019. You can follow Oubre on Twitter (@KELLYOUBREJR) and Instagram (@kellyoubrejr). Oubre was named to the 2014-15 Big 12 All-Freshman Team and the All-Big 12 Honorable Mention list. The Henderson, Nevada native helped lead Kansas to the 14-15 Big 12 regular-season title and the third round of the 2015 NCAA Tournament. He was second on the team in total rebounds (179) and steals (41), as well as steals per game (1.1) and defensive rebounds per game (3.8). In addition, Oubre was third in free throws per game (2.2) and fourth in points per game (9.3) for the Jayhawks. Oubre announced he would enter the 2015 NBA Draft after his freshman year at Kansas. He was selected in the first round (15th overall) by the Atlanta Hawks.
