The Suns have picked up a veteran 3-and-D player. Phoenix completed a trade that also involved the Brooklyn Nets and Memphis Grizzlies that sent Royce O’Neale from the Nets to the Suns.
Suns receive:
- Royce O’Neale (via Nets)
- David Roddy (via Grizzlies)
Grizzlies receive
- 2026 first-round pick swap
- Chimezie Metu (via Suns)
- Yuta Watanabe (via Suns)
Nets receive:
- Keita Bates-Diop (via Suns)
- Jordan Goodwin (via Suns)
- Draft rights to Vanja Marinkovic (via Grizzlies)
- Three future second-round picks (via Suns)
What trade means: Phoenix adds another piece to its bench with O’Neale, who is averaging 7.4 points and 4.5 rebounds over 49 games this season. The seven-year NBA veteran is a solid wing defender who has a career 3-point shooting average of 38.1%.
The Suns also add Roddy, who is a 6-foot-4 forward in his second NBA season. In 48 games with Memphis this season, Roddy is averaging 8.4 ppg and 4.2 rpg.
The Grizzlies bring back Watanabe, a 6-foot-9 forward who started his career with Memphis. He is averaging 3.6 ppg and shooting 32% on 3-pointers after hitting a career-best 44.4% of his 3-pointers last season.
In a related move, the Nets requested waivers on forward Thaddeus Young, acquired earlier in the day alongside Dennis Schroder.
