The Orlando Magic defeated the Houston Rockets 91-77 in the 2022 NBA 2K23 Summer League at Thomas & Mack Center on Thursday.

While there were seven lead changes in the first half, Orlando held the lead for all but two minutes in this game. The Magic finished the second quarter on a 9-2 run, outscoring the Rockets in that frame by a 30-20 score. Houston trailed by at least three points for the entirety of the second half, never attempting a game-tying shot. Orlando ended up shooting 42 percent from three-point range and 79 percent from the free-throw line while holding Houston to 29 percent from long range and 70 percent from the charity stripe. The Magic also out-rebounded the Rockets, 46-36.

The Rockets (0-1) were led by Josh Christopher, who collected 22 points and three blocks. Tari Eason amassed 14 points and 13 rebounds. Jalen Smith Jr finished with 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists, while Aric Holman led the bench with eight points, two rebounds and two blocks.

The Magic (1-0) were led by first overall pick Paolo Banchero, who tallied 17 points, four rebounds and six assists. R.J. Hampton had 11 points, 11 rebounds and two assists. Devin Cannady totaled 15 points and two boards, while Caleb Houstan led the bench with 20 points and six boards.

Both teams return to action Saturday, with Houston playing the Oklahoma City Thunder and Orlando facing the Sacramento Kings.
