Kawhi Leonard, Bobby Portis Jr. named NBA Players of the Week

The forwards from L.A. and Milwaukee take home the honors for Week 25.

LA Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard and Milwaukee Bucks forward Bobby Portis Jr. have been named NBA Players of the Week for Week 25.

Kawhi Leonard, LA Clippers

Leonar earns his eighth Player of the Week Award and his second with the Clippers. During the week, Leonard led the Clippers to a 3-0 record, behind averages of 25.7 points, 10.0 rebounds and 4.7 assists, while shooting 49.1% from the field, 38.9% from the 3-point range and 84.2% from the free-throw line.

The seven-time NBA All-Defensive team member recorded 25 points, seven rebounds and four assists, and eclipsed the 4,000-career rebound mark on April 5 against the Los Angeles Lakers. On April 9 at Phoenix, Leonard tallied 25 points, a season-high 15 rebounds and six assists across 36 minutes. This season, Leonard was one of two players averaging at least 20 points per game, while shooting above 50% from the field and 40% on three pointers.

Bobby Portis Jr., Milwaukee Bucks

With his play this week, Portis Jr. takes home his first Player of the Week honors in his career.

In the final week of the regular season, Portis Jr. averaged 20.7 points and 12.3 rebounds while shooting 44.7% from the field and 59.1% from 3. He started the week by scoring 19 points with 20 rebounds in a win over the Wizards on Tuesday before helping the Bucks clinch the top seed in the Eastern Conference with a win over the Bulls on Wednesday by scoring 27 points, making a season-high six 3s, and hauling in 13 rebounds. Portis Jr.’s 20 rebounds on Tuesday and his 27 points on Wednesday were both his second-highest marks of the season, while his five 3s on Tuesday and six 3s on Wednesday marked the first time in his career knocking down five or more 3s in back-to-back games.
