Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler will not play in Wednesday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers because of an ankle injury, the team announced.
The five-time All-Star was helped off the court in Monday’s 115-108 loss to the Golden State Warriors after his foot turned awkwardly. He did not return.
Butler has already missed 15 games this season due to various injuries, including a tail bone contusion and a sprain of the same ankle in November. The 32-year-old swingman is averaging 23.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals while shooting 50% from the field.
Butler’s presence has been essential for the fourth-place Heat, who are already missing Bam Adebayo (thumb surgery), Duncan Robinson (Health & Safety Protocols) and a plethora of role players to various maladies. Miami is 15-7 when Butler plays this season, 9-6 when he does not.
