Pass the Rock

Jaren Jackson Jr. featured in 'Pass The Rock' Season 2 debut

The Memphis big man talks music, the origin of 'The Block Panther' and more for 'Pass The Rock' on the NBA App.

Jaren Jackson Jr. is not only leaving his mark as a defensive powerhouse, but also as a musician and one of the NBA's most stylish trendsetters.

Every superhero needs a theme song.

So, it makes perfect sense that Memphis Grizzlies power forward Jaren Jackson Jr. (aka the “Block Panther”) spends a lot of time dabbling in music in the studio when he’s not causing havoc on the court.

To find out who gave him that nickname and what fuels his passion for music, check out the first episode of “Pass The Rock”, which is back for a second season, on Tuesday, Jan. 9 in the NBA App.

Jackson is one of eight young standouts featured this season, including Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey and San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama.

In this episode, Jackson talks about his relationship with his father, Jaren Jackson Sr. (who won a ring with the San Antonio Spurs in 1999) and his most important purchase ever.

The reigning Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year also breaks down what makes him so dominant on that side of the ball and what his ultimate on-the-court goal is.

“You don’t come out on the basketball court to be nice and be cute,” Jackson Jr. said. “You put on your jersey it’s like putting on your mask, your costume. You go out there and present yourself like this and you do everything it takes to get a win.”
