Hawks agree to deal with CJ McCollum

The veteran sharpshooter has agreed to remain with the Hawks for at least one more season.

CJ McCollum hit two game-winners in Atlanta’s first round matchup against the Knicks in the playoffs.

Veteran guard CJ McCollum will return to Atlanta for the 2026-27 season, the team announced on Monday.

The 34-year-old reportedly re-signed with the Hawks on a one-year deal, returning for his 14th NBA season.

McCollum was acquired by the Hawks in January from the Wizards as part of the Trae Young trade that also sent Corey Kispert to Atlanta. The Hawks went 19-4 with McCollum as a starter down the stretch, climbing to a 46-36 finish and the No. 6 seed in the East.

Although they fell to the eventual champion New York Knicks in six games, McCollum provided game-winning heroics in two of the first three games of the series. Atlanta was the only team to win more than one game against New York in the playoffs.

Atlanta’s surprising run to the playoffs helped fuel its decision to keep its braintrust in place for a few more seasons at least. The Hawks inked coach Quin Snyder to an extension and promoted Onsi Saleh from GM to president of basketball operations early in the offseason.

Snyder surpassed 500 career wins in March amid an impressive post-trade deadline surge, becoming the 41st coach in NBA history to reach the milestone. Atlanta’s 46 wins were the most since the 2015-2016 season.

Saleh was the runner-up to Boston’s Brad Stevens in voting for NBA Executive of the Year last month. Saleh received one first-place vote, 10 second-place votes and six third-place votes.

The 10th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, McCollum averaged 18.7 points and 3.9 assists per game in 2025-26 while shooting 45.5% overall and 37.5% on 3-pointers. He posted 150+ 3-pointers for the 11th straight season.
