About Last Night: Sweet revenge, Embiid dominates and more

Fourteen teams took the floor on Friday night. Let’s dive right in.

Revenge game In Utah?

There’s extra fuel and motivation when facing a former team, as seen in Salt Lake City when the Jazz hosted the Celtics for a highly anticipated showdown. The goal of every player during matchups against their old franchise is simple: Get buckets and lead your current team to a win.

Jae Crowder did just that.

After Crowder’s 20-point game and dagger 3-pointer to seal Utah’s 123-115 win, Crowder was asked if he was out to make Boston aware that it was a mistake to trade him.

“They know,” he said. “I’ll leave it at that.”

Gordon Hayward was facing his old squad, too, returning to Utah for the first time since defecting in free agency last summer. Fans booed him, cheered when Donovan Mitchell scored on him and were delighted to watch him lose on a night he was held to 13 points on 3-for-9 shooting.

Embiid powers Sixers

The draft for the 2019 All-Star Game will reportedly be televised, and we should expect to see Joel Embiid selected early (if not serve as a captain himself). He’s on pace to start his second straight All-Star Game after getting off to an impressive start to the season.

Embiid exterminated the Hornets in an overtime win on Friday, finishing with an overwhelming stat line of 42 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks.

The 7-foot center currently ranks second in the NBA in scoring, seventh in rebounding and fourth in blocks. He’s a big reason the Sixers are now 7-0 at home.

Murray gets ball back

The ball that Kyrie Irving bitterly launched into the stands, causing a week-long debate regarding the NBA’s unwritten rules of decorum, is back in Jamal Murray’s hands.

A young fan ended up with the rock and returned it to Murray before Friday’s game with the Nets.

In exchange, the lad got some signed sneakers and a chance to hit the court during pregame to play a round of 2-on-2 with Isaiah Thomas and his two boys.

The kid’s got some game, too.
