NBA Player Props & Picks: Bet Christian Wood, Jordan Poole Saturday (January 7)

Action Network Tyler Schmidt previews how to bet two player props on Saturday's slate, including Jordan Poole.

Saturday features only five games on the schedule as four of those five have a total over 230 points. This league has seen some huge scoring numbers this season and tonight should be no different.

Using our Action Labs Prop Model, there are two player props that stood out the most. Here’s a look at Saturday’s top NBA player props and picks.

NBA Player Props & Picks

Christian Wood, Under 29.5 Pts + Rebs + Asts (-110)

Spread Mavericks -7
Time | TV 8 p.m. ET | NBA League Pass
Best Line DraftKings

After winning seven-straight games, the Mavericks got humbled with a 29-point home loss to the Celtics who remain the best team in the league. They have a chance to bounce back against the Pelicans as they are seven-point home favorites despite being two games behind them in the standings.

The Pelicans continue to be without Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram, but still rank fifth in Defensive Rating (110.4), entering tonight’s games. This is also a back-to-back for the Pelicans as they lost to the Nets by six points last night. This game features by far the lowest total on the slate at 225 points.

The top of our Model is flooded with Christian Wood under props. Deciding which prop to choose from was difficult, but taking his under points, rebounds, and assists on DraftKings sportsbook feels like the best value. We have Wood projected for only 25.6 points, rebounds, and assists in this matchup tonight.

Not only are the Pelicans strong defensively, but they rank fifth in Rebounding Percentage this season. Wood has played under 30 minutes in four-straight games, which is not giving him much opportunity to reach this prop line, especially in a difficult matchup. This game may turn in to a slug fest. Take this under prop on Wood down to 27.5 points, rebounds, and assists on DraftKings.

Jordan Poole, Over 2.5 3-Pointers Made (-175)

Spread Warriors -6.5
Time | TV 8:30 p.m. ET | NBA League Pass
Best Line DraftKings

The Warriors are back to winning basketball as they have won five of their last six games. It helps every game they played has been at home as they get set to host the Magic who have one of the worst records in the league. The Warriors are 6.5-point favorites as this game total has risen up to 231 points.

The Magic have a ton of talent offensively, but rank 25th in Defensive Rating (114.5), entering tonight’s games. Where they struggle the most is guarding the 3-point line. They are allowing 37.5 3-point attempts per game, which ranks as the second-highest in the league. That is not a recipe for success in this matchup as the Warriors are attempting a league-high 42.9 3-pointers.

Jordan Poole is the Warriors player we are specifically targeting to take advantage of this matchup. He is averaging exactly 2.5 3-pointers made per game this season, but has attempted a career-high 8.1 per game. That number has risen to 10 attempted per game in the 10 games without Stephen Curry.

Our Model has Poole projected for exactly four 3-pointers made tonight. He has attempted double-digit 3-pointers in six of his last seven games and with the Magic being so inept guarding the 3-point line, expect another heavy dose of long balls from Poole tonight. Take this prop at 3.5 if juice was provided on the over. Keep an eye out in case this line gets bumped up for any reason.
