The Los Angeles Lakers today named longtime public address announcer Lawrence Tanter as Special Advisor for Game Presentation.
Following 43 seasons behind the courtside microphone, the beloved “Voice of the Lakers” will retire from his gameday role. In his new position, Tanter will lend his unparalleled announcing expertise and institutional knowledge to help shape the future of the Lakers game presentation experience.
“Lawrence Tanter has been an integral part of the Lakers gameday experience for more than four decades, setting the tone for countless memorable moments with his professionalism, energy and signature booming voice,” said Los Angeles Lakers Governor Jeanie Buss. “Since the 1980s, LT has narrated every chapter of Lakers basketball, connecting generations of fans, players, coaches and staff while becoming a trusted and unforgettable part of the Lakers experience. I am incredibly grateful for everything he has given to this franchise.”
Tanter has served as the Lakers public address announcer since 1982, becoming one of the most iconic and recognizable voices in professional sports. The Chicago native has provided the soundtrack to 10 NBA championships, 16 Western Conference titles and decades of Lakers memories. During the 2020 NBA Bubble, Tanter helped recreate the familiar atmosphere of Lakers basketball by recording game introductions from his home studio.
