Knicks Sign James Akinjo

NEW YORK, October 14, 2022 –The New York Knicks announced today that the team has signed guard James Akinjo to a contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Akinjo, 6-1, 185-pounds, played at Baylor University last season, recording 13.5 points, 5.8 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 2.03 steals over 33.1 minutes in 32 games (all starts). He led the Big 12 in assists (12th nationally) and free throw percentage (83.5%), while finishing ninth in the conference in scoring. He earned NABC All-District 8 First Team honors, a Third-Team All American selection by Sporting News, Associated Press and the NABC and an All-Big 12 First Team selection (Coaches & AP).  Prior to Baylor, Akinjo played one season at the University of Arizona (2020-21) and two seasons at Georgetown University (2018-20).

The Oakland, CA-native attended Salesian College Preparatory and averaged 20.7 points, 5.2 assists, and 3.1 rebounds as a senior on his way to being named San Francisco Chronicle Metro Player of the Year, Bay Area NewsGroup Player of the Year and SportsStars Magazine NorCal Player of the Year.
