Pre-Draft Outlook
Sixteen franchises have reached the conference finals in the last seven years, but the Sixers aren’t one of them despite having the league’s fourth-best regular-season record over that stretch. After another disappointing postseason (losing to the Knicks in the first round), they have just one player (Joel Embiid) with a guaranteed contract for next season.
The Way To Go
The Sixers need to keep their foot on the gas concerning contending for a championship, but rebuilding a top-flight roster around the 30-year-old Embiid will take a lot of work. The list of elite free agents is short, but they could use their cap space to trade for a player or two. And it’s in a trade where the 16th pick would have the most value for a team trying to win right now.
