2024 NBA Draft Profile

Minnesota Timberwolves

2024 Draft Picks:

27, 37
2023-24 Season: 56-263rd place, Northwest DivisionLost in West finals

Pre-Draft Outlook

The Timberwolves got a serious taste of the postseason, advancing for the first time in 20 years, and they don’t intend to recede. Mike Conley signed a long-term extension in February, which means the starters and the top two or three reserves will be back and ready for more. This team has some young talent at the end of its bench but the imperative to chase a title now has limited their opportunities. The biggest challenge for the Wolves will be payroll — and which ownership group decides how much to fund it.

The Way To Go

Even with Conley back, Minnesota will be starting a 37-year-old point guard. And flipping the playmaking duties to Anthony Edwards might get in the way of his explosive development as a pure scorer and havoc-wreaker. So an easy pick-and-fit might be Marquette senior point guard Tyler Kolek, a feisty lefty proficient in the pick-and-roll with that Javier Jaquez Jr. level of college seasoning. Over his rookie season, he could earn enough playing time that Conley could scale back from the 28.9 minutes per game he averaged in 2023-24.
