Thunder to Audition Entertainers Throughout August, September

OKLAHOMA CITY, July 29, 2010 – If you’ve ever harbored dreams of entertaining thousands of cheering fans or being part of the thrilling, fast-paced world of the NBA, your opportunity is here. The Oklahoma City Thunder has scheduled auditions in August and September for a number of entertainment slots.

Thunder Events & Entertainment Director John Leach said he is looking for candidates with excitement and enthusiasm to spare.

“We’re looking for talented people who exude energy and are uninhibited fun-makers, people of character who can represent the Thunder on the court and in the stands, as well as in the community,” he said. “We want dynamic performers who aren’t afraid to show that they love what they’re doing.”

Auditions are Saturday, Aug. 14, to select the 25 members of the Storm Chasers, the official interactive squad of your Oklahoma City Thunder. Ideal candidates should be energetic, charismatic, possess a unique talent or skill set and -- perhaps most important -- love Thunder basketball.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to: entertaining and energizing fans through initiating crowd chants, executing all promotions on-court and in the stands, distributing promotional items, greeting fans at the door and running the T-H-U-N-D-E-R flags.

Auditions will be held that same Saturday for those interested in joining forces with Rumble the Bison as part of the Thunder Bolts, the Thunder’s eight-member acrobatic dunk team.

Tryouts for the Storm Chasers and Thunder Bolts will be at 1 pm Saturday, Aug. 14, at the Casady High School gymnasium, 9500 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, in Oklahoma City.

Drummers of all stripes are invited to try out Wednesday, Aug. 25, for the Thunder Drummers. That bound-to-be noise-fest will be held at the new concert venue for ACM@UCO, otherwise known as the School of Rock. The facility is in Oklahoma City’s Bricktown district. The audition time has yet to be determined.

Do you have a girl or boy between the ages of 6 to 13 who loves to dance and would want to be part of the Thunder’s junior dance team? Auditions for the Rain Drops will be held at 9 am Saturday, Aug. 28, in the Ford Center. The team will have 15 members.

Finally, singers with the vocal pipes to perform the National Anthem are urged to attend an open audition on Saturday, Sept. 25, in the Ford Center. Soloists, duets, quartets and choirs are invited to the tryout.

With the exception of the Rain Drops, all candidates for Thunder entertainment must be 18 years old by October of this year.
