Thunder Girls Invited to Perform in China

Oklahoma City, Monday, June 24 – Six members of the Thunder Girls have been invited by NBA Entertainment to visit China and perform at the Dongfeng Fengshen exhibition during the 14th annual Pan Asia International Auto Show in Kunming, the Thunder announced today.

The visit marks the fifth consecutive year the Thunder Girls have been selected to represent Oklahoma and the NBA during an international tour and the dance team’s third visit to mainland China.

“It is a privilege for the Thunder Girls to be invited by the NBA to represent our team, fans and the state of Oklahoma at this international event,” said Brian Byrnes, senior vice president of Sales and Marketing for the Thunder. “They are great ambassadors for our organization and have earned this special opportunity.”

The team is scheduled to leave Oklahoma City on Tuesday, June 25 and will return to the States on July 4. Their schedule includes sponsorship events, performances and photo opportunities with fans. The Thunder Girls will be the only NBA dance team represented at the event. Team members scheduled for the trip include Jessica, Kim, LaTeshia, Molly, Sarah and Shereka, plus Dance Team Manager and Choreographer Paige Carter.

In 2009 Thunder Girls were selected to attend the London 5 United Tour, and in 2010 they were invited to NBA Madness in Taiwan. The dance team has visited China the past two summers, including the 2011 NBA Lenovo Pavilion Tour and last summer’s Guangdong Mobile Tour. They also toured Japan as NBA ambassadors last October.
