Thunder Introduces OG&E Thunderbolt

Oklahoma City, Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014 – The Oklahoma City Thunder has created a new fan experience designed to reach communities throughout the state and region, the team announced today. The OG&E ThunderBolt will offer fans attending local festivals, neighborhood events, school celebrations and more to engage in an interactive, Thunder-themed display.

Among other stops, the ThunderBolt will be at the Oklahoma State Fair, which runs from Sept. 11-21.

“The OG&E ThunderBolt presents an opportunity for more fans to take part in the Thunder experience, and not just on game nights,” said Brian Byrnes, senior vice president of Sales and Marketing for the team.

“We know that we have fans across the state and throughout the region who may not be able to come to our games, but still want to share their excitement for our team with fellow Thunder fans. We’ve developed this hands-on traveling exhibit as a part of our commitment to building communities, with the idea that shared experiences have the power to create connections.”

The ThunderBolt vehicle unfolds from a trailer into an exhibit space with interactive stations where fans can measure up to Thunder players, a Thunder locker-room photo opportunity, “You Make the Call” video station, trivia game that includes Thunder and OG&E energy facts, and custom fan photo booth. The outside of the vehicle is mounted with a basketball hoop, and additional activities, such as a sport court and skills contest, may be offered.

As the exclusive sponsor of the ThunderBolt, OG&E shares a common mission of connecting with communities, as they seek to educate consumers about “Positive Energy TOGETHER” and how we can make a difference in shaping our energy future.

“We have enjoyed a strong partnership with the Thunder that has included a commitment to wind power,” said Sean Trauschke, OGE Energy Corp. president. “With the ThunderBolt, we’re taking this partnership one step further by bringing the Thunder experience and our positive energy message into the communities we serve."

The ThunderBolt will be open outside the Thunder preseason game on Oct. 17 in Wichita, Kan.

  • Sept. 6: Western Days, Mustang
  • Sept. 11-21: Oklahoma State Fair, Oklahoma City
  • Oct. 4: Cotton Pickin’ Chili Cook-Off, Altus
