Summer Team Up Challenge Award Winners Announced

Twelve youth-serving nonprofits receive funding from Silver & Black Give Back

SAN ANTONIO (June 5, 2015) – Silver & Black Give Back today announced that 12 youth-serving nonprofits will receive a portion of $40,000 as part of the 2015 Summer Team Up Challenge. The Team Up Challenge funding will help the 12 nonprofits bring to life youth-led programs to serve communities across San Antonio.

Throughout the summer, the nonprofits will work to address community needs together with the San Antonio Stars. On Thursday, August 13 all 12 groups will be out in the community bringing service projects to life with help from the entire Stars roster for Team Up Day.

The grant recipients include: Artpace, Bexar County Family Justice Center, San Antonio Public Library Foundation, Blue Star Contemporary Art Museum, The Arc of San Antonio, St. Jude’s Ranch, SATX Inner City Development, SAMMinistries, SA Youth, American Sunrise, CTX Ability Sports, and Guadalupe Community Center.

The Team Up Challenge junior review committee, made up of 10 former Team Up Challenge participants ages 12 through 18, and the existing Team Up Challenge review committee, comprised of community leaders, worked together with Silver & Black Give Back to select the 12 award winners from a pool of local nonprofits.

The Team Up Challenge encourages students to apply what they are learning in the classroom to the real world, bringing education alive in powerful ways. Students create projects that address needs that will help improve their community in one of five categories: Arts & Culture, Education, Environment, Health & Wellness or Uniformed Services.  As a premier initiative of Silver & Black Give Back, Spurs, Stars and Rampage players work alongside the students to help bring their vision to life.

Silver & Black Give Back is a 501(c)(3) public charity that invests in the community in partnership with the entire Spurs Sports & Entertainment family of teams. Since 1988 coaches and staff have focused on fostering young talent and enriching the community by encouraging local youth to become responsible adults and give back through programs like Spurs Youth Basketball League and Team Up Challenge. Together, our community has the power to empower and create lasting change throughout San Antonio. More information on Silver & Black Give Back can be found at SBGB.org.
