SAN ANTONIO (January 28, 2016) – The NBA today announced that San Antonio Spurs forward LaMarcus Aldridge has been selected by the Western Conference head coaches to be a reserve in the 2016 All-Star Game. The first-year Spur will make his fifth straight All-Star appearance in the game to be held on Sunday, Feb. 14 in Toronto. Aldridge has helped guide the Spurs to a 39-7 record this season, tying San Antonio’s best start in franchise history. He is averaging a team-high 8.8 rebounds to go along with 15.9 points and 1.4 assists in 29.4 minutes while shooting .488 (275-564) from the floor and .811 (116-143) from the free throw line. The Silver and Black are a perfect 13-0 this season when Aldridge leads the team in scoring. The former Texas Longhorn has registered a team-leading 14 double-doubles and 35 games scoring in double figures, including 13 with 20-or-more points. He is one of just five players in Spurs franchise history to record at least 600 points and 350 rebounds through his first 40 games of the season, joining Artis Gilmore, Greg Anderson, David Robinson and Tim Duncan. In his four previous All-Star appearances, Aldridge has averaged 6.5 points and 3.0 rebounds in 13.3 minutes. Aldridge is now one of eight players to make each of the last five NBA All-Star Games, joining Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Chris Paul and Dwyane Wade. Aldridge will join Spurs teammate Kawhi Leonard on the Western Conference All-Stars, marking the first time San Antonio has had multiple selections since 2013, when Tim Duncan and Tony Parker were both chosen. The Silver and Black have had at least one All-Star selection in 37 of their 40 NBA seasons (no All-Star game in 1999) dating back to the 1976-77 campaign, the most of any team. Joining Aldridge as Western Conference reserves are: DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento), Anthony Davis (New Orleans), Draymond Green (Golden State), James Harden (Houston), Chris Paul (Los Angeles Clippers) and Klay Thompson (Golden State).
The 65th NBA All-Star Game will tip off on Sunday, Feb. 14 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, the first All-Star Game to be held outside of the U.S. The game will be seen by fans in more than 200 countries and territories and will be heard in more than 40 languages. TNT will televise the All-Star Game in the U.S.
