SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio Spurs forward Matt Bonner will host a special night of music when the Spurs take on the Los Angeles Lakers on March 14. Spurs Rock On Night will feature pre and post-game performances in the Bud Light Courtyard from musical acts curated by Matt and Luke Bonner, including hip-hop heavyweights Mobb Deep, The So So Glos, STRNGRS and Tan Vampires.
“Since the inception of the Rock On Foundation, we’ve been able to host amazing events to raise awareness and funds for our foundation,” said Matt Bonner. “With South by Southwest taking place at the same time, we wanted to host a celebration of music on our home court for Spurs fans.”
The Rock On Foundation works to generate new opportunities for people to achieve their full potential through the pursuit, practice and participation in the arts and athletics. Since its creation in early 2013, Rock On has hosted events such as the Alt-Star Party in New Orleans, Sneakers and Speakers music showcase in Austin, Sneakers and Speakers summer benefit concert in Portsmouth, NH, the Mid-Summer Classic high school basketball tournament in Concord, NH, and the Okkervil River Austin City Limits after show.
As a result of the success of these events, Rock On has been able to distribute proceeds in support of its mission throughout San Antonio, Austin, New Hampshire and New Orleans—places that have hosted Rock On events. These funds have helped renovate public basketball courts, provided financial aid for underprivileged youth interested in art and music lessons, assisted with the development of new community art programs, provided financial aid for at-risk youth to attend life skills basketball camps and helped fund a Police Activities youth basketball league.
The Tan Vampires will tip-off the event with a performance during WARM UP, the official Spurs pregame party at the Bud Light Courtyard. WARM UP starts at 5:30 p.m. and allows fans to skip the lines so they can enjoy live music, food trucks, interactive games and Bud Light Spurs Hour drink specials. New York-based rockers STRNGRS will take the stage during halftime.
Acclaimed East Coast rap duo Mobb Deep and punk rockers the So So Glos, who had one of Rolling Stone’s Top 50 albums of 2013, will perform at OVERTIME following the conclusion of the game against the Lakers.
Fans will need a Spurs game ticket to attend Spurs Rock On Night at the Bud Light Courtyard.
Tickets are available for purchase online at Spurs.com or ATTCenter.com. Tickets may also be purchased at the AT&T Center Southeast Box Office Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or on weekend Spurs games starting at noon.
