San Antonio Spurs “This is Big” introduction video wins top honors at industry awards
SAN ANTONIO – Spurs Sports & Entertainment took home gold at the PromaxBDA Sports Media Marketing Awards held at New York’s Capitale on Tuesday, Nov. 19. PromaxBDA is the leading global association for marketing, promotion and design professionals in the media industry. The Spurs pregame introduction video, “This is Big,” was awarded the top prize in the category of Best Pregame Team Introduction, Opening or Halftime Video for the NBA.
“This is Big”, which debuted during last season’s Western Conference Finals, highlights the Spurs road through the playoffs. The creative concept parallels the NBA’s 2012-13 BIG campaign and ties-in the core values of Spurs Sports & Entertainment. Spurs Sports & Entertainment partnered with the Texas Actors Workshop to recruit a child actor for the lead role. Narrated by the child actor, “This is Big” provided a recap of the team’s journey leading up to the Western Conference Finals.
“The 2012-13 NBA season marked a change at Spurs Sports & Entertainment as we took our first steps towards bringing our creative elements in-house,” said David Stotts, senior director of creative services for Spurs Sports & Entertainment. “Winning gold for ‘This is Big’ is recognition that our developing creative team is taking steps in the right direction and is helping to create an even better fan experience.”
The PromaxBDA Sports Media Marketing Awards honors creativity, excellence and innovation in sports media marketing and promotion from around the globe. The fourth annual awards ceremony brought together the innovative and creative leaders in the sports media industry to celebrate the best strategic and creative marketing from the global community. This year’s winners were recognized for their outstanding promotion, marketing and design work over the last year in the sports media market.
