Basketball without Borders Americas 2013 got off to a quick start today in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after an opening press conference at CENARD. The 50 young players from 15 countries across the Americas were eager to start learning from their NBA role models including James Anderson (Philadelphia 76ers), Chris Copeland (Indiana Pacers), Manu Ginobili (San Antonio Spurs), Pablo Prigioni (New York Knicks), former NBA player Pepe Sanchez, and Luis Scola (Phoenix Suns). After morning skills stations, the campers scrimmaged for the coaches who will draft them into their camp teams tonight.
In the afternoon, the BWB campers had a chance to get to know each other and see some of the sights around Buenos Aires, while the NBA players and coaches stayed back at the gym to run an NBA Cares basketball clinic for Special Olympics athletes, sponsored by Fargo. Scola, a Special Olympics Ambassador, took charge, leading the athletes through warm-up exercises and passing, shooting and dribbling drills. At the close of the day, each participant was awarded a medal for their participation from one of their NBA idols.
