Join Team BMB for The Concert for The Cure 2012

Bowen Miclette and Britt’s Team BMB will host their annual Concert for the Cure to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. The event will be on October 11th from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Rebel’s Honky Tonk on Washington. Entertainment will be provided by The Patrick Murphy Band with performances by Joni Rae Jack and Jade Jack. We will also host live and silent auctions.  Last year we raised $43,790.41 in donations for the Komen-Houston affiliate. Our inspiration for this event is our former co-worker and friend, Ann Fryer.

In 2012 we are also motivated and inspired by the loss of our long time Race for the Cure team member Jimmie Sue Browning. Kathy Foster, her daughter, shares Jimmie’s story below.

In 1977 a 37 year old mother of three found a lump in her left breast.  My Mom, Jimmie Sue Browning.  Her doctor sent her directly to M.D. Anderson, which was just starting a new treatment concept - Lumpectomy and Cobalt Radiation vs. Mastectomy.  Mom agreed and was one of their first trial patients.   Can you imagine sitting exposed in the middle of a teaching class room?  I can’t.  Well it paid off!  She was cancer free until 20 years later when it came back and then another 2 years and it was in the other breast.  This didn’t stop this courageous woman.  Through double mastectomy, chemo, radiation, surgery and pain, she kept going.  She walked every Komen Race but two since 1999.  She fought a war with cancer and won an additional 35 years of living and loving.  Mom’s final battle ended on Oct. 4th 2011.  With dignity and grace she faced the monster and with love and peace she joined her Father in heaven.

My daughters, friends and I always walked with Mom at the Komen Race.  We will still walk with her, but now, she is in our hearts.  Breast cancer is a horrible disease that affects so many people like Mom.    Though I treasure the additional 35 years, we still want more.  Help us try to give More to Many.  Please support the BMB/Rockets Team so we can find better treatment options and a Cure.  It can be done.

Please join us for the concert on October 11th to celebrate our survivors and remember those we have lost. During the concert we will have a live auction, a silent auction, grab bags, t-shirt sales, a raffle and more.

If you are interested in obtaining tickets for the concert or in making a donation to Team BMB, please contact Karen Oakes at koakes@bmbinc.com or 713-867-5359.
