Pelicans Dance Team Auditions Slated for Saturday, June 13

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Pelicans will hold auditions for the 2015-16 Pelicans Dance Team on Saturday, June 13 at the Pelicans Practice Facility (5800 Airline Drive, Metairie). Registration opens at 9:00 a.m. The Pelicans are looking for girls at least 18 years of age who have previous dance experience and are enthusiastic and committed to representing the Pelicans organization on and off the court. In anticipation of the audition process, the Pelicans will host four prep classes. The first one will be on Thursday, May 28 at Premier Fitness (1909 Airline Drive, Metairie) from 7:00-9:00 p.m. The second one will be in Baton Rouge at Tari’s School of Dance (9166 Perkins Road, Baton Rouge) on Saturday, May 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The final two prep classes will be at Premier Fitness on Wednesday, June 3 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 7 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

All contestants selected as finalists must be available to participate in the Pelicans Dance Team Finalists Training Camp from Monday, June 15 through Wednesday, June 17. All training camp activities will take place in the evening with the exception of professional interviews.

The Pelicans dance team performs professionally-choreographed dance routines to a variety of music during home games, and make appearances at community and professional events throughout the year. In past seasons, the dance team has traveled to Spain, Germany, China and the Balkans to perform and represent New Orleans and the organization on an international stage.

Dance team applicants should be in top physical condition and wear appropriate dance attire for the audition, which includes a half-top that shows midriff, hot shorts or trunks (no pants), dance or athletic shoes, flesh-colored tights (preferred) and performance-ready hair and make-up (no ponytails). At registration, dancers must provide a resume that depicts any professional and dance experience, a recent 4x6 headshot, a copy of their high school diploma, valid photo identification, and a completed application form.
