Pacers Lose to Jazz, 87-81

Orlando – The Indiana Pacers (2-2) dropped their second straight game in the summer league, falling to the Utah Jazz, 87-81 Thursday afternoon at the Amway Center.

The Pacers trailed for most of the game and made repeated runs at the Jazz, closing to one point at 79-78 with less than a minute to play, but Utah answered with a Jeremy Evans dunk, Orlando Johnson missed on a drive and the Jazz made four free throws in the last 20 seconds to seal the game.

Poor shooting was the main problem for the Pacers as they hit just 40 percent from the field. They did offset that by getting to the free throw line 41 times, making 28.

Ben Hansbrough led the Pacers with 18 points, 11 of this coming at the line. Miles Plumlee, the Pacers' No. 1 draft pick, had 15 points and pulled down six rebounds. Second-round pick Orlando Johnson had 11 points and seven rebounds and Julian Mavunga had 10.

"The guys who played played their hearts out," said Pacers assistant coach Dan Burke. "They played through some tough situations and gave us a chance to win. We were short on bodies, but long on effort."

The Pacers played without veterans Lance Stephenson (sore left knee) and Jeff Pendergraph (sore back). They were also without Reggie Hamilton (sprained left ankle) and Matt Janning (left team to play in Las Vegas Summer League).

The Pacers conclude summer league play today when they meet the Brooklyn Nets at 2:00 p.m.
